TRAINING @ SOUTHSIDE
PHILOSOPHY OF TRAINING
At Southside, we believe that the local church should be the place where people are discipled, nurtured and trained/equipped in the ways of the Lord and for ministries (in and outside the church).
At Southside, we employ both formal and informal means to equip. Purposeful social and spiritual interactions such as celebratory events, activities, spontaneous or regular gatherings and relationships within the church community are some of the best informal or natural means to disciple and equip. On the other hand, in the last 2 or 3 years, a more structured and supervised training programs have been developing gradually, which incorporates specific ministries run on regular basis (such as church Prayer Meeting, Youth, Children’s, Women’s ministries), teaching courses, and practical assignments to equip those who have committed themselves to being equipped.
FORMAT
The format of training focuses on the basic knowledge of biblical doctrines and the Kingdom of God; basic tenets of ministry/servanthood and the prophetic; Church History and lastly personal/spiritual growth.
There are different ways for participants to approach Training @ Southside:
1.As a Trainee - a participant who is a pro-active participant in the life of Southside VCF community, takes up all courses and group work (i.e: personal/spiritual growth mentoring group) without further commitment to supervised training, yet it is our hope that being a Trainee is a stepping stone to become an intern in the house.
2.As an Intern - a participant who is a pro-active participant in the life of Southside VCF community, does all that a Trainee does, plus commits himself/herself to a ministry assignment in our outside Southside and to supervision (group or individual) on a regular basis
3.As an Observant - a participant who takes up loose courses without further commitment to further training, but hopefully is committed to church life (Southside or another church).
We believe the call to follow Christ, is a call to discipleship, regardless of the type of calling each one has. A disciple is a person who believes and confesses Christ as His Lord, and who commits himself to the obedience to the Holy Spirit, to studying the Word of God, to being part of the Body (that is becoming an active member of a local church that God has appointed), and to sharing the Gospel with others.
