FULLNESS IN CHRIST

“For in Christ all the fullness of the deity lives in bodily form and in Christ you have been brought to fullness”, Colossians 2:9-10
What a staggering verse, ‘In Christ you have been brought to fullness.’ What does that even mean, or what does it look like, and is it even possible? How can you even begin to describe it? It must be possible, otherwise Paul wouldn’t say it. It would suggest that Jesus Christ is enough in every area of our lives. Fullness of joy. Fullness of peace. Fullness of wellbeing and in every situation and every circumstance, He is more than enough. Everything is well with our soul. It reminds me of that verse in 1 John 5:12 ‘Whoever has the son has life; whoever does not have the son does not have life’ See, when we give our lives to Christ, He comes and lives inside us, and His life begins to affect every area of our life. It means we have everything we need for salvation and spiritual growth through our union with Christ, who is the head of all authority. The verse highlights that believers don’t need to seek external sources for completeness or wisdom, as Christ is the source of all that we require. When we start looking elsewhere to fulfil our needs, we have left the source himself, Christ. Addictions, compulsive behaviours, and frustration are just ways to try to fulfil our needs and wants outside of Christ. We are trying to fulfil our deepest wants and needs apart from Christ. Christ within you is the hope of the glory that is to come. We have in Christ whatever is required. But sadly, we never learn that straight away. We all tend to want to go our own way, do it apart from Him, and we usually fall flat on our faces. But he never leaves us there. He comes and picks us up and says Come run to me. Exchange your live, your mess for my very life. His love is constant towards us. He doesn’t get impatient with us. He just says Come to me, learn from me. Take my yoke, which is easy and light. It's always an invitation to draw near to Him and surrender more of our lives to Him.
