HEALING

We will continue looking at Isaiah 53 and seeing what Jesus purchased for us from Rick Renners great book on healing. Well worth the read.

“By his wounds we are healed”

Some translations say by his stripes. This word finds its origins in a Hebrew word that pictures bruises, welts, and the dark blue marks left by a severe whipping. This is a reference to the scourging that Christ endured to obtain our freedom from all forms of mental disease, illness, and sickness in our lives.

The Hebrew word rapha is rendered healed in this verse. Christ's redemptive work on the cross brought about not only our forgiveness of sins, liberation from shame and mental peace, but also physical and mental healing from all manner of ailments. He is the Lord our Doctor (rapha). There are people, unfortunately, who don’t support divine healing and say this means spiritual healing. But there is no room for interpreting this verse that way at all. When we came to Christ, we were not spiritually healed; we were resurrected with Christ positionally and are seated with Christ. We were dead, spiritually dead, and had to be born again or resurrected.

Matthew 8:16 confirms this prophecy from Isaiah.

“When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfil what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah. He took up our infirmities and carried all our diseases.

Always remember, Jesus is glorified in us when He receives everything he
