ONE PEOPLE

“I charge you before the lord to have this letter read to all the brothers (or holy brethren” 1 Thes 5: 27

Ill quote from Rick Renner’s book again from “Sparklingly gems from the Greek because it is so good.

When they addressed each other as brethren or brother or sister. It conveys the idea we came of the same womb of humanity. Have similar emotions, deal with the same problems in life. In every respect we are brothers and sisters.

Born of God we are related by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and members of the same spiritual family or community – the body of Christ. But the word brethren was also used to describe faithful soldiers. Soldiers were true comrades, partners who were united to fight the same fight, handle the same weapons and win the same wars.

That’s why community is so important to God and why the NT talks about the importance of unity. Often the church ends up fighting and attacking each other. How can that be? It’s a military term for brothers who are in battle. John Wimber always used to say remember the enemy is never one another the real enemy is the devil and all his demons. What really counts is that you keep fighting so don’t give up on yourself and don’t give up on one another because we are His holy brethren. We are all in this together.
