STAND

“Preach the word be instant in season and out of season.”

2 Timothy 4:2

Now I know this is Paul writing to Timothy who was pastoring the church at Ephesus and Paul was encouraging him to stand at His post because he was going through a difficult time and he was starting to despair. Nero had become the Roman Emperor and his insanity was wreaking havoc in the church especially in Rome and even in Ephesus. Persecution was breaking out. Many had died for the faith and many were abandoning the faith. But this is also relating to all of us about standing in the position and post God has put you even in the hard seasons.

Paul Renner has an expanded interpretive translation from the Greek. It goes like this:

Take a firm stand and resolve to stay at your post, regardless of whether times are good or bad, that is your post your place of responsibility – so dig in take a firm stand and resolve that you are going to be faithful.

That was Paul’s encouragement to Timothy so you can see how it relates to all of us in our Christian Walk regardless whether we are specifically leading in some capacity or not. Be brave and remain faithful to the very end. We need to understand things are not going to get any easier as we approach the end of the age. The pressure is going to only increase on those of us who are believers. You are going to have to resolve you are going to be faithful whether times are good or bad. Its like the old saying. Learn to build a bit of a back bone. Its not always easy being a follower of Christ over the long haul.

Jesus is with you. He will give you all the strength that you need. What is our part Making sure you stay faithful to the post God has called you.
