TRUTH AND GRACE

“For the law was given through Moses but grace and truth come through Jesus Christ” John 1:17

John Wimber wrote an article about this way back in 1995 but it is probably more relevant today than way back then because society and the church has become far more polarised than ever and it takes real wisdom to know how to walk before God without being pulled into extremes. So I quote from the article some of the truths that John expanded on from this verse.

Jesus was full of grace and truth that’s why whenever he’s been preached wherever he has been made known across the world he has for the most part an excellent reputation although that is even changing today but by in large people don’t attack Jesus but they do get upset with His church. His church is guilty of not representing him well at times sadly. We must walk in truth and grace. If we are untempered in our attitudes about truth, we will become victimizers and harsh legalists and begin criticizing people for not walking in the truth or at least our view of truth. If we over emphasize grace, it becomes something less than godly in its character and makeup and become humanistic in its source. It leads to ignoring the very foundations of the issue of sin in people’s lives. The pursuit of truth with a deemphasis on grace creates legalists who become critical of those who do not believe or exercise the truth exactly as they do. Never the less under the guise of defending truth some Christians have left a bad taste in the mouth of both believer’s and non believer’s who have assumed that all Christianity is represented by a vocal and angry minority. Unfortunately, since 1995 with the explosion of social media and internet its reached fever pitch and honestly its dividing and causing havoc in the church and polarising Gods people. Let’s learn to walk in truth and grace to His church.
