KING DAVID

“Though my father and mother forsake me the Lord will receive me”

Psalm 27:10

The passion translation says “My father and mother abandoned me. I’m like an orphan. But you took me in and made me yours”

This is a fascinating look into David's life.

Jewish tradition and some of the Talmud writings suggest that David was possibly illegitimate, and these verses and others provide some evidence for that. Also, they suggest that Psalm 51:5 could possibly be referring to this where he says. “Behold I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me”   That might explain why David was sent away from his family to be a shepherd boy by himself. When Samuel the prophet came to anoint one of the sons to be King, David wasn’t brought to Samuel. There seems to have been some sort of rejection of him because he was an illegitimate child.  Also, when David brought food for his brothers when they were facing off with the Philistines, and Goliath and his brothers were very angry and mocked Him. They called him conceited and how wicked his heart was and who was looking after the sheep. There was definitely something going on. He was rejected by his parents and brothers But God saw David's heart so differently.

I love that phrase “but you took me in and made me yours.”

Don’t let your past define who you let God define you. David overcame his orphan spirit of rejection by his relationship with God which he developed when he was by himself looking after the sheep.

Every child needs 4 things Acceptance, focused attention guidance, protection

All 4 emotional needs are ultimately met by God for David in his formative years by himself as a shepherd boy.
