DEAD TO SIN

Romans 6:2

I love Romans chapter 6

This verse is so powerful. We died to sin. Its past tense. It’s pointing to something in the past that has already happened. It’s our position and union with Christ. Paul is saying we have died to the power and reign, realm of sin. He’s brought it to an end.

In co1;1:3 Paul says we have been taken out of the realm and dominion of darkness and translated or transferred into the kingdom of light. That happened the moment we gave our lives to Christ. Our position has completely changed. In Roman chapt 5 Paul says we were taken out of Adam and put into Christ and we are in the reign and realm of God’s grace under its rule power and influence. We are completely dead to the rule and reign and realm of sin. That’s our new position. The Christian life is learning to walk in this new reality and to make it experiential. The big question is do we really believe it.

We being who we are, dead to sin, and dead to Adam it’s impossible for sin to be our way of life. He does not say we are sinless but he does say we are out of the reign, dominion and rule of sin. That’s our new position in Christ under the reign of grace – its mighty power. The reign of grace has come to destroy the reign of sin. Sin shall not have dominion over you v14. That’s our new position. Ask God to open your eyes to see this reality and to learn to walk in it. Don’t be tricked by the lies of the enemy.
