GIRD UP THE LOINS OF YOUR MIND

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end  for the grace that is to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at His coming.” 1 Peter 1:13

Gird up the loins is a phrase used by Orientals in biblical times to describe those who wore long robes. Before going on a long journey or before running a race in the games they would gather up the loose robes and tuck them under a girdle so they would not trip up so they could move freely. But notice he is referring to our minds here.

Peter is telling us that if we don’t deal with the loose ends that exist in our minds and emotions. Correct those parts of our thinking that we know are wrong. Grab hold of all those dangling areas in our thinking and put them out of the way. We will not be able to run the race set before us successfully. If we want to be successful in our spiritual lives and truly walk with God, we must clean up all the loose thinking in our minds and heads. Remember talking about the fact the devil works on a road and it's directed to our minds. He wants to penetrate our minds and thinking. We have to learn to take authority over the spiritual attacks that have assaulted our lives and to be honest about how many of them are the result of our failure to renew our minds with the word of God or take authority over the devil's strategies in our lives. Our minds need to be dominated by the word of God. There is no other way. Remember the devil doesn't play fair. He always plays dirty. Lent is a good time to repent and come before God and ask Him to give you the power of the Holy Spirit and His grace to begin to clean up your mind and gird up the loins of your mind. Clean up the loose ends in your thinking. Remember if you don’t like what you are thinking or meditating on begin to choose another thought. It’s a discipline.
