GROWING IN GRACE

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ 2 Peter 3:18

What’s fascinating is this is only one of the few places in the entire Bible where it talks about growth. It’s a growing in grace. No believer grows into grace but it’s always growing in the grace. Some translate grace as unmerited or undeserved favour but it’s more than that. One definition is that God’s grace is His empowering presence or grace means I need God to do more for me. Truth points out my lack and grace supplies my need. As we read his word the truth it shows us where we are lacking and not living according to His holy standard. Grace therefore replenishes the lack. He gives more of his empowering presence to overcome and see change in our lives. Jesus is not only the truth He is also the grace. So when we see our sin we immediately pray ‘Oh God I confess my sin, Once more I learn my lesson, I can never be changed and I’m not going to try and change myself. Once again I glory in my weakness and you will overshadow me with your grace, your power to overcome.’ That’s how we grow in grace.
